My Earthquake Preparedness Guide
Simple Steps to get You, Your Family and Your Pets Prepared by
Jackie Kloosterboer
The time to prepare is now – before the earthquake strikes. Once the “Big One” hits, it’s too late. I wish I had a crystal ball to predict when the next earthquake will strike. I wish I could tell you what damage your home might sustain or how the earthquake will impact you, your family and your pets. But I can’t give you these answers – nobody can.
What I can tell you is this: if you are prepared, you will get through the disaster far better than those who are not. Following the steps outlined in this guidebook will ensure that you have a Family Emergency Plan in place and that you have purchased and stored necessary supplies to survive the aftermath of a disaster. Most importantly you will know what to do when the earth starts moving.
These are just a few of the valuable tips covered in the pages of this guidebook. Best of all, if you are prepared for an earthquake, you will be prepared for any emergency or disaster that comes your way!
Jackie Kloosterboer has been leading the way in emergency preparedness for over 15 years. As Coordinator of the City of Vancouver’s Public Education Program, Jackie presents more than 100 Emergency Preparedness sessions each year to individuals and business groups, taking them step by step through the process of how to prepare their family members and pets for whatever disaster comes their way. She is often interviewed by a variety of media outlets across Canada as she promotes the importance of Emergency Preparedness.
Jackie leads a team of more than 400 Vancouver Emergency Social Services volunteers who are ready to set up Reception Centers and Group Lodging Centers for those affected by disaster. Responding to an average of 40 activations each year, Jackie has seen first-hand the importance of being prepared. Throughout British Columbia she has taken on leadership roles to assist those who have been impacted by disaster.
